FAQs

What exactly do you do?

reStyled by Valerie is a full service interior design business and we design our own line of home décor items and cute little knick knacks. As a full service design business, we work on both commercial and residential projects. Within the design scope we do everything from one-off “what can I do to spruce up my living room” consults, to full scale remodels with space planning, materials selection and contractor management.

I am interested in your services, how do I begin?

Yeah… glad you found us and are interested in working with us! A good place to begin would be by telling us a bit about your project. Tell us what rooms you are interested in redesigning, what you would like to achieve with this redesign and when you would like to start. Then share photos of the room(s) via our email or the contact form. These do not have to be professionally captured photos, but ones captured in good light so we can properly see all your space has to offer. These photos provide a solid jumping off point for us to formulate our design plans so that when we eventually come out to see your space in our initial consultation, we already have somewhat of a design idea to share with you. This is also a good time to begin thinking of a budget amount, you are comfortable spending, as that will also inform our initial conversation and determine the design scope.

How much do you charge?

My project fees are variable because they depend on the size and scope of the project in question. That said, I offer two different fee options, a percent of total budget payment option and a per hour rate option. The percent of total budget payment option is the most cost effective choice for larger scale projects with multiple facets requiring a significant amount of time to complete, while the per hour rate payment option is perfect for smaller scale jobs and those requiring consult-only services. I do offer an initial 30 minute free consult.

What are the steps involved in the interior design process?

The design plan and process varies depending on the size and scope of the project, but a typical project is outlined below:

  • Client initiates contact providing a detailed description including pictures of the spaces in question.
  • Follow-up email or call from us with further directive if it is a good fit project based on your expectations, budget and our current workload.
  • Initial site visit to capture further pictures and measurements, and discuss design options.
  • Sign contract, collect retainer, develop design plan and project timeline.
  • Execute design plan.
  • Finalize payment, style and photograph project.

Where do you look for inspiration?

Where I look for inspiration depends on what I am working on. For color inspiration, I look at nature photos for naturally occurring color combinations although I tend to play up and exaggerate these combinations in my own designs. I also get a lot of inspiration from movies, especially foreign movies, and from magazines and digital catalogs like Houzz and Pinterest.

How would you describe your style?

Personally, my style is ever evolving and very eclectic, but if I had to describe it, I would say it is a shot of modern with a heavy dose of functional, fun and personality.

What if my style is different from yours, can you execute other design styles?

This is an important question to ask any designer you are considering hiring. You want to make sure you love their work before you hire them not hire them in the hopes that you will love their future work. For me design is an art so that as each client and project and house varies, so does my approach and design direction.
